I surf mainly beachbreaks which are mostly 2-4ft most of the time.

Hello Todd,

I’m looking to downsize my current board to something shorter and am considering the Lil’ Rascal.

I surf mainly beachbreaks which are

mostly 2-4ft most of the time.

Waves are usually mushy. I’m a 5’6 58kg beginner who’s been surfing for about 2 years and am currently surfing a 6’10 x 20” x 2 ¾” hybrid.

I’d like something to have fun with

but still can accommodate as my

skill and experience grows.

Do you think the Lil’ Rascal fits the bill here? I was also considering a quad like the 4-leaf clover. Any advice would be great!

Thanks for the help!

Cheers, Eric

Hi Eric,

The perfect next board for you would be the Greased Pig with dimensions at

6’4” x 19 5/8” x 2 5/8”.

This board generates incredible speed like the Rascal models, but it is much more versatile than the Rascals, working great in a wide variety of conditions from small and mushy up to head high and punchy. You’ll notice I didn’t drop the board dimensions down too small for you yet since you’ll still want to maintain paddleability in wave catching and for the board to carry a good trim speed regardless if the waves are real weak or not.

You can order this board to be set-up as a five fin;

that way you could ride it as a quad, or a thruster depending on the conditions….this is what I would recommend.

Please feel free to ask any other questions you may have. I know you would be stoked on a magic Proctor Greased Pig five fin. Looking forward to your reply,

Aloha,

Todd

Hi Todd,

Thanks for the reply and suggestion, I’ve taken a look at the Greased Pig and it does look really good. I’ve also noticed that the board comes in a single or double wings.

Would that make the board even looser

if ridden as a quad?

Cheers,
Eric

Hi Eric,

The double wing swallowtail is the looser of the two; a swallowtail is loose, a single wing swallowtail is looser yet, and the

double wing swallowtail is the loosest

of the three tail shapes.

I’ve made many Greased Pigs with the five fin set-up and as swallowtail, single winger swallows and double wing swallows and they all go really good.
Feel free to ask any other questions you may have. Looking forward to your reply,
Aloha,

Todd
