the most versatile performance shortboard I make
Hey Todd,
I’m contacting you in search for a custom surfboard. I am moving to Okinawa Japan and
will be surfing reef breaks most of the time.
I am 19 years old and a beginner but i am a very fast learner when it comes to board sports. I have been skateboarding, longboard skateboarding and snowboarding since I was a kid and am a fairly talented person. as of now i can ride the line, bottom turn, and cut back. I am wanting
a board that can be ridden in small slop
to overhead+.
I am 5’10 149 pounds. I was wondering what you would recommend for me based on the information I just provided and I am not cost conscious. I greatly appreciate your time helping me with my growing passion for the sport!
Hi Vaughn,
What is type, size/ dimensions of the board that you are coming off of? Once I here back from you, I can detail the magic design, dimensions for you….or if you would like to set up a phone consultation (just let me know a phone # and best time to call), we can over everything that way….very efficient and I can be much more thorough to answer all your questions and break down the specific, most suitable board design for you….quicker than e-mail also….
Well, I’ll look forward to your reply and get back to you right away either by e-mail or phone whichever you prefer.
I know you would be stoked on a magic Proctor.
Speak soon,
Aloha,
Todd
Thanks for such a fast reply!
I was riding a 6’4 pride for about 2 months that I bought used from a friend and unfortunately It did get stolen and I cant recall what the width and thickness was. Since then I have been using my friends extra boards of all shapes and sizes. My cell phone is broken and I am fairly busy this weekend so for right now I think e-mail is the best way to go. I will be glad to have a phone conversation with you in the near future when it comes time for me to get things going. I wont be purchasing until after the holidays due to financial issues, although, I am very serious about getting my board through you being that I have heard excellent things and your website is superb compared to other shapers. like I said previously I am 5’10 149 pounds and 19 years old. I learn very quickly and have a natural talent with all board sports although I still consider myself a beginner.
I want a board that will be able to
keep up with me as I progress through the sport.
I will be surfing mainly reef breaks In okinawa Japan. I also want a board that is fairly strong and will last me a while. As far as Graphics are concerned I want something fairly simple and not to colorful but I would like for you to have fun with it and pick a design for me yourself. I hope this is enough information for you to give me an estimated price range. If you need any further information to aid in you hooking me up with my magic proctor I will be glad to tell you.
Thanks again, I greatly appreciate your time!
Vaughn
Hi again Vaugh,
Sorry to take so long to get back to you….it has been incredibly busy here and sometimes hard for me to get right back with everyone.
Anyway, it’s ok that you don’t know the width and thickness of your last board. Here is what I think is going to be
the magic board for you:
6’2” x 18 ½” 2 ¼” G-4.E with a squashtail…..
this is the latest version of my Groveler IV.p model and the most versatile performance shortboard I make. It generates incredible speed in small waves, yet holds in and surfs fast and tight in the pocket on the punchier swell days. The perfect one board for all the various conditions you will encounter in Okinawa. I’ve actually made quite a few boards for guys surfing in Okinawa. The dimensions I gave you are just slightly oversized than typical for someone your same height and weight who has been surfing their entire life….but you are young and from the sounds of it will push out of the beginner phase pretty quick. So this board will be great, not only because it rips in all conditions, but because you won’t need to switch to something different say six months down the road. This board will challenge you without frustrating you and will truly the be the board that will take your surfing to the next level.
As far as construction goes, I have two basic types…(1) polyester construction – this is the standard foam and fiberglass that is how boards have been built for a very long time. About half the boards we do here out of our factory are polyester construction. They start at $585.00 and include fin system and fins. Artwork/ graphics are additional. (2) the other type of construction we do is called the
“Proxy” – this is our unique
custom epoxy technology
that is fairly new. The boards are lighter, 3 times stronger than polyester and they are very lively under your feet. The Proxy technology is the premium board I make here, but since the materials are higher grade they cost me more….so the boards start at $735.00 and include fin system and fins and a two color airbrush fade on the board that keeps the board looking nice and new for a long time.
Artwork usually runs anywhere from average $65.00 for something cool to $100.00 for something pretty sick, to $200.00 for filth artwork full board.
Ok, well hope that helps answer most of your questions. Please feel free to ask any other questions you may have. I know you would be stoked on a magic Proctor. Looking forward to your reply,
Aloha,
Todd
